A bitterly disappointed Leeds United boss Steve Evans has lamented not having a clinical striker, which he feels cost them the game at Queens Park Rangers earlier today.

QPR striker Charlie Austin scored his seventh goal of the season to give the lead to the home side at Loftus Road after the break and Neil Warnock’s side held on to the lead to earn all three points against the visiting Leeds team.

Leeds boss Evans admits that it was a disappointing performance from his men and while he feels they were a bit better after the break, he believes the overall showing was just not good enough to get anything from the game.

A disappointed Leeds boss told BBC Radio Leeds: “It was a poor performance.

“We started the second half properly and the goal came against the run of play. We should have scored in the last 15 minutesm but it was not a good performance.”

He blamed the Leeds defence for not being on their game and allowing a striker such as Austin a free header inside the box. The Leeds boss feels his team did apply some pressure towards the end, but believes that the lack of a clinical forward cost them the points at the end.

“You can't let Charlie Austin run away and take a free header like he did. I think we started the second half well.

“They were dominant after the goal but how we didn't score at the end… we didn't score because we haven't got a six yard striker.”

It was Leeds' second defeat in a row in the league and the club are now perilously close to the relegation zone.
