Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson concedes that Swansea City were unlucky with the penalty awarded against them at Anfield today.

In difficult, windy conditions on Merseyside, Liverpool edged the Premier League fixture 1-0, owing their victory to a penalty slotted away by James Milner just past the hour mark.

The spot-kick was awarded for a handball committed by Swansea defender Neil Taylor from a Jordon Ibe cross – and Lawrenson admits it was harsh.

Indeed, Lawrenson feels there was nothing Taylor could do to avoid the ball and concedes if the same had happened to Liverpool he would be unhappy.

He said on LFC TV: "If it had been given against us we'd have been screaming.

"I don't know where he's supposed to put his hands to be honest with you."

Overall, Lawrenson thought the encounter was a dull one, but saw a positive for Liverpool in that Jordan Henderson returned following his absence, being brought off the bench.

"Not a lot happened in the game. But the bonus is you win and Henderson gets minutes."

Liverpool are now up to sixth in the Premier League standings while the pressure has increased on Swansea boss Garry Monk.

The Swans have won just one of their last eleven games in all competitions.
