Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is proud of how his side rose to the challenge of taking on Chelsea earlier today, given they had played in the Europa League in Azerbaijan on Thursday evening.

Chelsea were in Champions League action, but on Tuesday, while Spurs had far less time to rest ahead of the Premier League game at White Hart Lane.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw with relatively few goalscoring chances for either side, with Spurs restricting Chelsea to only one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

And Pochettino could not help but be happy with his team, saying on Spurs TV: "It’s always difficult to play against Chelsea and after travelling back from Azerbaijan it was an even tougher game, but I think we can be pleased with the performance and the maturity we showed as a team.

"The effort was unbelievable and for me, they are all heroes", the Argentine boss continued.

"We deserved more, but at the end we have to be happy with the effort, we created more chances than Chelsea – I think they had one shot on target – and we can feel proud of the performance."

Following the stalemate at White Hart Lane, Spurs now sit fifth in the Premier League standings with 25 points from 14 games, just two fewer than rivals Arsenal, who are fourth.

Spurs are next in action away at the Hawthornes against West Brom next weekend, in what is their first match of December.
