Arsene Wenger admits he failed in an attempt to sign young winger Kingsley Coman for Arsenal last year, having thought the deal was done.

Coman was out of contract with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2014 and had a number of top clubs across Europe on his tail.

Wenger worked his charm on the young winger and admits he thought he had managed to convince Coman to head to the Emirates Stadium.

But the Frenchman eventually turned round and signed a five-year deal with Italian giants Juventus.

Wenger revealed on beIN Sports: "We tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014.

"The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred to sign with Juventus and the matter was therefore not completed", the Arsenal boss added.

Coman helped Juventus win the Serie A title last term, but was on the move again this summer when he completed a loan switch to Bayern Munich.

The German champions paid a loan fee of €7m for the 19-year-old, taking him on a two-year loan deal.

Bayern Munich have the option to keep Coman permanently if they choose to pay a further €21m.
