Liverpool Under-21 manager Michael Beale expects a tough game against Manchester United’s Under-21s when the two sides meet at the Leigh Sports Village later this evening.

The Red Devils pipped the Reds to the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Division One title last season, and Beale has urged his side to be more clinical against Warren Joyce’s men.

The Reds currently sit at the bottom of Division One, having won only one game out of the seven they have played.

The Red Devils on the other hand are two points ahead of their rivals, with seven points, having played three games fewer.

Beale believes that the recent results between the two teams do not reflect his side’s capabilities and expects Joyce’s side to be at 100 per cent for the game.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, Beale said: “They are always close games when we face them at U21 level.

“They won the league last year and we finished second and when they play us they are 100 per cent committed.

“I’d be lying if I said I felt we had done ourselves justice the last two or three times we have played against them.

“Although we may have had more of the ball than them at times, we just haven’t been clinical enough.

“We are looking to rectify that on Monday.”

Under the guidance of Under-18s manager, Neil Critchley, Liverpool Under-18s side registered a thumping 4-0 win over Manchester United Under-18s at the latter’s training ground and the Under-21s will be hoping to emulate their junior’s performance.
