Jordan Rossiter has explained that he was delighted to return to action, following his involvement in Liverpool Under-21s’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last night at Leigh Sports Village.

The starlet has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty with England Under-19s in October.

The 18-year-old, who is a product of Liverpool’s youth system, made his first team debut for the club in a League Cup encounter against Middlesbrough last season.

Rossiter found the back of the net in that game, thus making him Liverpool’s second youngest goalscorer behind Michael Owen.

And the youngster, who played an hour against the Manchester United Under-21s, revealed that he wanted to play the full game.

“It’s great to be back”, he told LFC TV.

“It has been seven to eight weeks since I played my last game for Liverpool. So it was great to be back, it was just a disappointing result overall.

“Yes, I was gutted to be taken off. It has been a long time since I have played and I loved being back.”

Rossiter is yet to feature under new Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who took charge of the club in October.

The midfielder, who has thus far made four senior appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, has represented England at various youth levels.
