Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and insists that he can not find anything to criticise in the shot-stopper.

Klopp has been linked with moving to bring in another goalkeeper amid speculation that he feels he can improve on Mignolet, who is at present Liverpool's number 1.

But the German is happy with Mignolet's attitude and believes the Belgian is a very good goalkeeper who is desperate to continue improving.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Klopp said: "Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest keepers I've had. He's still young enough to develop. He is very open.

"Since I am here there is nothing to criticise, absolutely nothing", the ex-Borussia Dortmund coach continued.

"Everybody is watching for a second Manuel Neuer or something like this. The only thing we have to learn as a team is to give our goalkeeper the ball in the right situations."

Klopp however does not know whether Mignolet will play tomorrow or whether Liverpool will continue playing Adam Bogdan for League Cup matches.

"I don't know who will play tomorrow. Maybe it's Adam Bogdan, if not it's Simon Mignolet."

Liverpool face a League Cup tie against Southampton tomorrow night as they look to book a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament, with Klopp hunting his first piece of silverware as Reds boss.

Klopp's men are on a good run of form and beat Swansea City 1-0 in difficult, windy conditions at Anfield at the weekend.
