Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been named La Liga Player of the Year for the 2014/15 campaign, while Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo had to be satisfied with the Fans' Five-Star Player award.

Messi was instrumental in helping Barcelona win the treble last season, with the Argentine international scoring 43 league goals in the process.




The 28-year-old’s impressive goalscoring record also helped him to win the Best Forward award, while his team-mates Claudio Bravo and Neymar were named Best Goalkeeper and Best Player from the Americas respectively.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique concluded the Catalans’ dominance in the prize ceremony held at Forum de la Ciudad Condal, Barcelona, by winning the Best Coach award.
 


Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez were named the league’s Best Defender and Best Midfielder respectively, while Valencia’s Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli picked up the Best African Player award.
