Brazil captain Neymar’s father has assured Barcelona fans that his son will sign a new contract with the club.

The Brazil superstar’s future at Barcelona came under the scanner last summer when it emerged that Manchester United were keen to sign him and were ready to break the bank to take him to Old Trafford.

While Barcelona denied any suggestion that Manchester United made a move for him, the player’s father revealed last month that a bid was indeed made by the Red Devils, but his son was not keen to move.

Rumours surrounding his future became more intense in recent days when his father revealed that his son could move away from Spain if the tax authorities continue to hound him.

However, Neymar Santos Sr. assured the Barcelona fans that his son will sign a new contract with the club and feels it is too soon to discuss a renewal as the player’s current deal still has some legs in it.

The Brazilian’s father was quoted as saying by Marca: “Be calm and sure that Neymar will renew.

“There is no hurry; he still has three years left on his contract.”

Neymar has made it to the final shortlist of three for the Ballon d’Or award, along with Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
