Rangers manager Mark Warburton believes that 19-year-old winger Nathan Oduwa has a long way to go, after the winger scored his first ever goal for the Gers in last night’s win over Dumbarton at Ibrox.

Warburton’s men thumped four past Dumbarton in an inspired second half display, which saw them open up a three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Championship.

Jason Holt, Martyn Waghorn and Andy Halliday scored a goal apiece as Stephen Aitken’s side sank without a trace.

Oduwa, currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, came on as a 77th minute substitute for the Gers’ leading goalscorer Waghorn and scored his first goal for the club.

Warburton believes that despite his impressive physical stature, Oduwa had to learn to deal with the successes and disappointments faced by footballers, which has a massive say in how a player is moulded.

Speaking in an interview after the 4-0 win, Warburton told Rangers TV: “Nathan is a young player, he may be 6’2 but you have to remember he is 19 and they have to learn.

“They have to learn to deal with success, disappointment and it is all part of your development as a player and your character building.

“He came on and scored the goal so I am pleased for him, he has a lot of work to do but everyone in that team has to earn the shirt and if he does that then we will have a very good player on our hands.”

The Gers face fifth placed Raith at Stark’s Park on Saturday as they look to further widen the gap at the top of the Championship.
