Newcastle United are considering a move to sign Adel Taarabt from Benfica in the January transfer window, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo, cited by Desporto Sapo.

The winger is yet to feature for Benfica since joining the Portuguese giants from Queens Park Rangers in the summer.

However, Newcastle, who are struggling in the Premier League, could appoint Clarence Seedorf as their new boss, replacing Steve McClaren.

The Dutchman has previously worked with Taarabt, having signed the 26-year-old in January during his brief stint as AC Milan manager.

And it is believed that Newcastle’s hierarchy are interested in roping in the Moroccan international, whose present deal with Benfica runs until 2020.
