Douglas Costa has revealed that he rejected a chance to join Chelsea in the summer for the privilege of playing under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.

The Premier League champions were heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international before he decided to move to Bayern Munich in the summer from Shakhtar Donetsk.




Costa even urged Shakhtar Donetsk to let him and join Chelsea in January and explained that it was his dream to play for the Premier League champions.

However, things turned around in the summer and Bayern Munich moved swiftly to secure his signature from the Ukrainian club for a figure of around €30m on a five-year contract.
 


And the player revealed that while Chelsea were interested, he decided to join Bayern Munich because of their manager Guardiola. He feels he can learn a lot more under the Spaniard in Bavaria.

The Bayern Munich winger told Bild: “Chelsea wanted me too.

“They had a strong interest in me and went to great lengths for me – I wanted to play for Pep Guardiola at Bayern.

“I deliberately chose Pep and Bayern because I know I can learn a lot more here.”

The 25-year-old has made a solid start to his Bayern Munich career and has scored five times and provided 14 assists in 20 appearances this season.
