Liverpool legend Mark Wright thinks Jurgen Klopp will try to sign another centre-back in January, following the club’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at the weekend.

The Reds, who have been a defensively solid unit since Klopp took charge in October, conceded more than once in a game for only the second time under the German; the previous instance being a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last month.

Martin Skrtel started against Newcastle at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, with Dejan Lovren partnering the Slovakian in Mamadou Sakho’s absence.

And Wright, who felt the Merseyside giants were bullied by the Magpies at St. James’ Park, believes Klopp will be looking to bring in another centre-back in the winter transfer window to heat up the competition for places in the centre of defence.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he brings another centre-back in”, he said on LFC TV.

“Until the weekend Liverpool hadn't really been conceding. On Saturday they got bullied a little by Newcastle, they were a bit more physical than Liverpool were.

“And if you ask me do I think he will bring another centre-half in? I think he probably will. And then it will be good competition all around.”

Liverpool, who are currently eighth in the Premier League table with 23 points from 15 games, have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.
