Rangers boss Mark Warburton feels that it is a compliment to his players' work this season that he has been linked with the vacant managerial post at Swansea City, but has dodged a question on whether the Welsh giants have made contact with his representatives.

Warburton was recently linked with taking over at English Championship outfit Fulham, with some suggestions he was all but certain to head south, but blasted the talk and stressed his commitment to Rangers.

He has now been linked with another job, a division higher in the Premier League, after Swansea sacked Garry Monk.

Warburton was asked about being linked with the job at the Liberty Stadium at a press conference and replied: "It's compliments to the players. It's credit to them. Any manager, any coach, always only gets linked to jobs, and it's always flattering to be linked, if they are winning games of football."

It was put to Warburton that it has been suggested by a journalist in England that there has been contact between Swansea and his representatives.

But the Rangers boss chose to dodge the question, simply repeating what he had said before and explaining he did not want to revisit the sage of the previous week when he was consistently asked about joining Fulham.

"Listen, I'm just going to [end up] repeat[ing] what I said last week [when I was linked with Fulham], so I surely can't go down that path again.

"It's all credit to the players that if they are winning games of football – you only ever get linked if the players are doing well. So it's credit to their performances and achievements thus far this season."

Swansea have not yet appointed a replacement for Monk and have also been linked with Manchester United assistant boss Ryan Giggs.

Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is currently the bookmakers' favourite to take charge at the Liberty Stadium however.
