Former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is in talks to become the next Zenit St. Petersburg manager, according to Russian daily Izvestia.

Ancelotti has been without a job since Real Madrid parted ways with him at the end of last season and he was heavily wooed by AC Milan during the summer but he chose to stay away from management.

The Italian has said that he is keen to take up a new job next summer and it seems he could be on his way to Russia as it has been claimed that Zenit are negotiating a contract with the former Paris Saint-Germain manager.

Andre Villas-Boas’ contract with the club will expire at the end of the season and the Russian outfit are keen to bring the high profile Italian manager to replace the outgoing Portuguese before the start of next season.

The club have been in talks with Ancelotti and his representatives over the last few days and are ready to make him one of the highest paid managers in the world with a reported salary of €16m.

Zenit have also promised Ancelotti funds to reshape their squad and want the Italian to turn the club into serious contenders for the Champions League in the next few seasons.

Ancelotti has won league titles in Italy, France and England and has won the Champions League three times with AC Milan and Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether he decides to take up the offer from Zenit or wait for one of the traditional heavyweights of Europe to come for him next summer.
