Zenit Saint Petersburg are close to securing the signature of Arsenal linked forward Aleksandr Kokorin in the January transfer window, it has been claimed.

The Russia international’s future has been a topic of discussion since last summer and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is expected to leave Dynamo Moscow in January.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the forward for months and they were reportedly in talks with Dynamo Moscow to secure the signature of the forward, but it seems the Gunners have been upstaged by another Russian outfit.

According to Russian daily Izvestia, Zenit are close to snaring Kokorin away from Dynamo Moscow after holding talks with the player’s representatives in the last few days over a transfer to the Petrovsky Stadium.

Dynamo Moscow are reportedly undergoing a few financial problems and are ready to sell the player in January to earn a fee, believed to be around the €6m mark.
