Netherlands coach Danny Blind has revealed he spoke to Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal about Memphis Depay before the last international break and was pleased with what he saw.

Blind initially left Depay out of the Netherlands squad for the last international break, but with a number of players withdrawing from the squad eventually called up the winger.

The Dutch tactician knew that Depay's form suffered a slump and was keen to speak to Van Gaal before calling the former PSV Eindhoven star up.

And Blind was pleased with what he heard from Van Gaal, who talked up Depay's attitude during his slump.

"I spoke to Van Gaal about how Memphis was responding at United during his downturn. Louis was really positive", Blind explained to Voetbal International.

"I myself have also had good conversations with Memphis", he added.

Blind also explained that veteran Dutch stars Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben spoke with Depay, something he feels is very important as the winger is not receiving all his feedback from coaches.

"Sneijder and Robben have spoken to him about certain issues", Blind revealed.

"That's good, then it's not only coaches [speaking to him]."

Depay clocked up all 90 minutes in Manchester United's last match, a 2-1 defeat away to Bournemouth.
