Belgium national team manager Marc Wilmots believes he is similar to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in several aspects.

The 46-year-old has helped guide the Red Devils to the summit of world football and his side will finish the year as the number one ranked team in the world.

Belgium qualified for Euro 2016 as leaders of Group B, ahead of second placed Wales, and the Red Devils only suffered a single defeat in the entire qualification campaign.

The former Schalke midfielder believes he is honest, open and direct just like Klopp, and prefers having one-on-one conversations with his players like the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

The 46-year-old explained that he cannot score goals for his team, but he can make the right decisions and guide his team.

Speaking in an interview with FIFA, Wilmots said: “As for my part in all this, I’ve yet to see a coach score a goal.

“As a coach you have to choose the right methods and make the correct decisions.

“I’m a little like Jurgen Klopp: very down-to-earth, honest and always straight-talking.

“I also spend plenty of time talking one-on-one with my players.

Wilmots stressed the importance of having mutual respect within a team and highlighted that the team is more important than an individual.

“We want to build a team that doesn’t just play for itself, so mutual respect is vital.

“One person is not important.

“Before it was ‘me, me, me’, now it’s ‘we’.

“Together we can achieve great things; together we’re strong.”

The Red Devils have been drawn alongside Italy, the Republic of Ireland and Sweden in next year’s premier showpiece, which will be held in France.
