West Ham United have lodged a formal bid to buy Besiktas midfielder Gokhan Tore, but will meet the Turkish club again to discuss the player at the end of the season after reportedly meeting without success.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic knows Tore well from his spell in charge of Besiktas and had been hoping to take him to Upton Park in the current transfer window.

The English side even slapped in a €10m proposal for Tore, but according to Turkish outlet Kralspor, all the signs are that Besiktas do not want to sell.

West Ham sent a representative to Turkey to speak to Besiktas president Fikret Orman and a promise was made to talk again about the player at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old joined Besiktas, initially on loan, from Russian side Rubin Kazan in 2013.

Besiktas then completed the permanent signing of the midfielder in 2014 and he has continued to impress in Istanbul.

Tore, born in Germany, was tempted to join Chelsea's youth ranks in 2009, but never broke through to the senior side and left for Hamburg in 2011.

He has 26 caps for Turkey at international level to his name.
