Steven Gerrard is still better than Liverpool's current midfield options, former Reds boss Roy Evans believes.

The legendary midfielder left the Reds when his contract expired in the summer and penned an 18-month deal with Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.

It was claimed in some quarters that Liverpool did not do enough to keep Gerrard and Evans feels the former England skipper is still better than the current midfield options at manager Jurgen Klopp's disposal.

And Evans wonders whether Gerrard could be tempted back to Anfield.

Musing about leaders while analysing Liverpool's 2-0 weekend defeat to West Ham, Evans said on LFC TV: "I'm thinking 'could we get him to come back?'

"Not being stupid about it, but I think he's still better than what we've got.

"OK, he went to America and I think he's got another year on his contract unfortunately, but he's come back and there's talk about him coming on the coaching side some time in the future.

"But has he got what it takes to come back [as a player]?" Evans added.

Gerrard will be in action for a Liverpool legends side later this week, with a game against an Australian legends outfit set to take place in Sydney.

The midfielder has been training under Klopp at Liverpool's Melwood training ground over the winter to keep fit for the start of the 2016 MLS campaign.
