Former West Ham midfielder Scott Parker has praised the Hammers fans for showing their support even after he decided to join their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The 35-year-old, who currently plies his trade in the Championship with Fulham, joined West Ham from Newcastle United in 2007.

He spent four seasons at Upton Park, where he won the Hammer of the Year award three times, owing to his impressive displays.

Parker left West Ham for Spurs in 2011 after making 129 appearances in all competitions for the Claret and Blue, scoring 12 times and providing 11 assists.

But the veteran insisted that the majority of the West Ham faithful were supportive about his decision to quit the club to sign for fellow London outfit Tottenham.

“Yes, that rapport [with West Ham fans] was the biggest thing”, he explained to West Ham’s official site.

“When I look back at my West Ham career, the highlight, no matter what the results, the rapport was superb, not just with me but my family.

“Even the way I left the club, going to play for a rival, some were not happy, but most appreciated my efforts and without their support I couldn't have played the way I did.”

Parker, who also counts Charlton and Chelsea amongst his former employers, is the first player to represent clubs in North, East, South and West London in the Premier League.
