Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta has insisted that his club are not interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan during the January transfer window.

The Germany international has been linked with a move away from Dortmund since last summer and there is speculation that Premier League giants Liverpool are considering making a play for him.

However, Juventus are the ones who have been heavily rumoured to be interested in the midfielder and Gundogan is believed to be their number one transfer target for the winter window.

But it emerged yesterday that the 25-year-old is not interested in a move to Turin this month and is willing to wait until the end of the season before he starts assessing his options during the summer.

And now Marotta claimed that the club were never interested in signing Gundogan during the winter window. He insisted that they don’t need the German as they already have a number of options in the midfield area.

The Juventus CEO told Sport Bild: “Gundogan is a name we have not mentioned in relation to the winter transfer market.

“I do not think Borussia Dortmund want to sell the player. Why should we rely on Gundogan, when we have midfielders such as Claudio Marchisio?

“We have several options in midfield.”

Gundogan signed a new contract with Dortmund last summer, but the deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
