Former Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has confirmed that striker Luciano Becchio is currently training with Rotherham United.

Redfearn knows Becchio, who is a free agent, well from his spell at Elland Road and is giving the striker every chance to prove his fitness ahead of a potential move which the Rotherham boss feels would be a "no brainer".

Becchio has consistently been linked with a move back to Leeds, but in training with Rotherham he has taken the first steps towards joining the Millers.

Speaking at a press conference, Redfearn was asked about Becchio training at the club and said: "Luciano looks really good. He's somebody I know from my time at Leeds. He was prolific there.

"He's known to Rotherham fans for his spell here and from what I gather he did well and had a rapport with them", Redfearn continued.

"If we can get him in the right mould and the right vein of form he's a really good target man at this level. He's young enough to play at this level for another four or five years.

"He is somebody we can get something sorted out with him.

"He's got to prove his fitness because he's had an injury. He has to prove he is free from that. We'll look at his match fitness", the Millers boss continued.

"In an ideal world he is fit and he is free from his injury and then it becomes a no-brainer for us."

Becchio is a fan favourite at Elland Road, having been prolific for the Whites between 2008 and 2013.

He moved on from Leeds to Norwich City before then having a loan spell with Rotherham United which was cut short by injury.

The Argentine may be an interested observer this weekend when Rotherham take on Leeds at Elland Road in an FA Cup third round tie.
