Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori could start against Exeter City on Saturday after returning from his loan stint with Aston Villa.

The Portuguese centre half was shipped out on loan until January last summer to Villa Park, but other than just one appearance on the bench, he struggled to find a place in Aston Villa’s first team squad.

He made just three appearances for the Villa Under-21s before returning to Liverpool earlier this week, but he could find himself straight back into the first eleven for the Reds this weekend.

According to the Press Association, Ilori could make the starting eleven in Liverpool’s third round FA Cup clash against Exeter at St James Park on Saturday, as Jurgen Klopp looks to ring in the changes.

Liverpool are missing a few key defenders due to injury concerns and that could mean an opportunity for the 22-year-old to make a good first impression on the new Reds boss early on his return to the club.

Ilori trained with the Liverpool first team squad earlier today, and after his disappointing stint at Aston Villa, he could be making a fresh start this Saturday against Exeter.

Liverpool signed the defender from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 and he did spend time on loan at clubs such as Granada and Bordeaux before he joined Villa last summer.
