Leeds United manager Steve Evans has revealed that it took less than three minutes for winger Mustapha Carayol to make up his mind about joining the Whites.

The 27-year-old joined the Elland Road-based side on a season-long loan deal from Middlesbrough earlier today and was slotted straight into the squad for their FA Cup third round tie at home against Rotherham United on Saturday.

The Gambia international has previously experienced working under Evans while he was the boss at Crawley Town back during the 2007/08 season.

Speaking about his acquaintance with Carayol, the 53-year-old manager insisted that they have both kept in touch with each other and he is eager to welcome him to his team once again.

“Mustapha played for me as a kid many years ago at Crawley and we have often come across each since and kept in touch”, Evans told his club's official website.

“He was delighted to receive a call from the head coach at Leeds United and it took him less than three seconds to say ‘I’ll get in the car in the next ten minutes and head to Leeds’.

“I don’t want to say what he will or won’t do, but what I can say is that every time I’ve seen him play he looks a serious threat to the opposition and he gets the opportunity to challenge for a place in the team."

Evans also took time to speak about his transfer plans over the course of the next few weeks, insisting that he sees Carayol as the first of "three of four further additions" that Leeds plan to make during the month of January.

“I look forward to this being the first of three or four further additions to the group before the end of the month."
