Steven Gerrard has explained that playing alongside his childhood idols Ian Rush and John Aldridge for Liverpool Legends against Australian Legends yesterday was one of the best 90 minutes of his life.

Gerrard captained the Liverpool side, which had some stellar yesteryear players such as Rush, Aldridge, Robbie Fowler, Dietmar Hamann and Jamie Carragher amongst others.

Rush and Aldridge, who have six Football League First Division titles, now rechristened as the Premier League, between themselves, rolled back the years, with both the former strikers scoring from close range against their Australian counterparts.

Luis Garcia was the other goalscorer as the Spaniard’s brace helped Liverpool Legends, managed by Gerard Houllier, to comfortably run out 4-0 winners at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

And Gerrard, who left Liverpool for MLS outfit LA Galaxy in the summer, insisted that he was glad to finally tick the boxes of playing with Rush and Aldridge.

“All throughout the match I was thinking about growing up as a kid and watching these people”, he said on LFC TV.

“It was one of the best 90 minutes of my life.

“[Playing alongside] Rush, check. Aldridge, check.”

Apart from the Premier League, Gerrard managed to win every other major honour for Liverpool.
