Former West Ham star Paolo Di Canio has lavished praise on Liverpool midfielder Emre Can and believes he has all the attributes to succeed at an Italian club.

The Reds signed the Germany international from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, and despite Liverpool’s inconsistent performances over the last 18 months, the midfielder has garnered praise for his showings thus far.

He was used in multiple positions by former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers last season to make full use of his versatility, but Jurgen Klopp has decided to use him in his natural position in the middle of the park.

Can has cemented his place in Klopp’s starting eleven and Di Canio has revealed that he is a fan of the Liverpool midfielder.

The former Sunderland boss feels his versatility is crucial to him being an important player for the Reds and believes Can also has the mental make-up to succeed in Italy, if he ever decides to move away from Liverpool.

The former West Ham man said on FOX Sports Italy: “Emre Can made his debut in the national team as a full-back, but started his career as a central midfielder.

“He can play in front of the defence, as a two in the midfield and also in a midfield three. Rodgers also used him the defence as part of a back three.

“He has personality, physicality and is not afraid of a fight. In Italy he could become a very important player.”

The 21-year-old midfielder has made 28 appearances for the Reds this season and the club feel that going forward, he will be a big part of their future.
