Leeds United boss Steve Evans believes it is clear to everyone why his side signed Liam Bridcutt and Mustapha Carayol after the Whites beat Rotherham United 2-0 at Elland Road today to move into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The match was competitive from the outset with Leeds and Rotherham giving no quarter, but there was a lack of quality and as a result chances were at a premium.

Leeds came close to going ahead in the 39th minute when a Luke Murphy free-kick was misjudged by Kirk Broadfoot, who almost headed the ball into his own net.

The Whites did have the lead just five minutes later however and it was debutant Carayol who broke the deadlock.

Carayol drilled a superb shot past goalkeeper Lee Camp, following a cut-back from Charlie Taylor.

"There's so much of me inside happy tonight because we're through to the next round, but I take no pleasure in beating Rotherham United, a club I managed for many years", he told LUTV.

"We deserved to win. Our goalkeeper had one save to make I think my daughter could save. We've scored a couple of good goals with endeavor.

"People can see why Liam Bridcutt is here and they can probably see why Mustapha Carayol was brought here as well", he continued, saluting his signings' performances.

Leeds will now wait to discover their fourth round opponent on Monday.
