Celtic boss Ronny Deila is pleased to see Carlton Cole open his account for the club in a 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Stranraer today, feeling it eases the pressure on Leigh Griffiths.

The Bhoys regularly look to Griffiths to deliver the goods in attack and he has come up trumps this term, hitting his 21st and 22nd goals in the win over Stranraer.

Griffiths scored in the 18th and 84th minutes at Stair Park, while Cole grabbed a goal in the 42nd minute with a header.

Cole and Griffiths played together and developed an instant rapport, showing promising signs if Deila chooses to field the pair as a partnership in future.

And Deila believes that if Cole does well then the pressure on Griffiths will be eased, something he is hoping happens.

"You can see Carlton is experienced and knows how to score and be a striker", Deila said via his club's site.

"I was happy for Carlton to score as means not everything is on Leigh’s shoulders, and maybe it was good for him to have some days off as there have been a lot of games for him."

Cole will be itching to be involved in Celtic's next game which comes away against Dundee United this coming Friday.

Celtic then only have a short break before hosting Hamilton at Paradise on 19th January.
