Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose admits he asked boss Mauricio Pochettino if he was being serious when he told him he would be captain for the side's FA Cup tie with Leicester City on Sunday.

Pochettino handed Rose the armband for the fixture at White Hart Lane, delighting the full-back, but also leaving him having to do a double take and ask the Argentine boss if he really was captain for the game.

Rose, who joined Spurs from Leeds United in 2007, told his club's site: "Mauricio only said to me about an hour and a half before kick-off that I was captain.

"I asked him if he was being serious!

"I was sitting there preparing myself and when I found out I felt I was given an extra incentive to try to do well and to spur the lads on whenever I could", Rose added.

Rose will be hoping to wear the armband yet again for the replay after the 2-2 draw with Leicester set up a deciding game between the two clubs for the right to progress to the fourth round.

Tottenham or Leicester have been drawn away from home to play Colchester United in the fourth round, meaning each will be confident of further progression if they can win the replay.

Before the replay though Spurs lock horns with Leicester once again, this time in the Premier League, again at White Hart Lane, tomorrow evening.
