Liverpool have made an approach to sign Queens Park Rangers central defender Steven Caulker on loan until the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to add defensive meat to his squad for the second half of the season as he looks to deal with the injuries to defenders Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho.

And it seems his eyes have turned towards Caulker as according to the Press Association, the Reds have established contact with QPR to discuss the terms of a loan agreement for the defender until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old defender is currently on loan to Southampton, but has been struggling to get on the pitch regularly as Ronald Koeman has allowed him just 144 minutes of Premier League football across three appearances.

It has been suggested that the loan deal with Southampton could be cancelled if the Reds manage to reach an agreement with QPR over a new loan move for Caulker this month.

Caulker might look to get assurances from Klopp about playing time after spending a frustrating few months at St. Mary’s, if he decides to move to Anfield during the winter window.

The defender has 120 Premier League appearances under his belt and has an England cap beside his name.
