Newcastle United are interested in signing former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner during the January transfer window.

After loan spells at Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus, the Dane finally left Arsenal in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer and joined Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

However, the 27-year-old has struggled to play regular football since joining the club and has seen just 421 minutes of action this term, across 16 appearances in all competitions.

It has been suggested that the player is keen to leave the Volkswagen Arena this month and has asked his agent to find a new club for him during the January transfer window.

And according to Bild, Newcastle United are showing an interest in taking the former Arsenal striker back to England this month, with the player believed to be keen to make the move immediately.

Newcastle are yet to reach an agreement over a fee with Wolfsburg, but the club are expected to make their offer soon to take the Dane back to the Premier League during the January window.

The forward has scored four goals this term and has a contract until 2017 with Wolfsburg.

Bendtner flattered to deceive during his spell with Arsenal, but if he moves to Newcastle, Steve McClaren will be hoping that he can get more out of the Dane as he looks to take the Magpies away from the threat of relegation.
