Celtic legend Chris Sutton believes that the Bhoys should back manager Ronny Deila in the transfer market, especially as the club have decided against sacking him.

The 42-year-old former Bhoys striker made 199 appearances for the Celtic Park outfit during a six-year long spell at the club, scoring 86 goals in the process.

During his time with the Bhoys he lifted the Scottish Premier League on four occasions, the Scottish Cup on three occasions and the Scottish League Cup once.

The Bhoys have struggled under Deila this season, after having waltzed their way to the title last season, winning it comfortably with three matches remaining.

Deila’s side currently find themselves at the top of the Scottish Championship, three points ahead of Aberdeen, albeit having played a game fewer.

Sutton feels that now was the right time for Celtic to sack their manager, however, as they have decided against doing so, he feels that the club should back the manager in the transfer market.

The 42-year-old feels that it would be unfair to hire a new manager in the summer and ask him to turn things around miraculously.

The former striker is also dismayed by the Bhoys’ reluctance to sign an experienced player in the ongoing transfer window.

Speaking in an interview with Herald Scotland, Sutton said: "If they were going to relieve Ronny of his duties this was the time to do it.

"It would make more sense to get someone in now and let them get the feet under the table so it’s not the scattergun approach in the summer where you get someone in you are asking him unfairly to make an instant impact in the biggest games of the season.

“If Peter Lawwell is backing him – which he seems to be – then surely there comes a time when they have to speculate a bit and get an experienced player in.

“So why wait? I don’t understand why they’re hanging about.”

Deila’s side take on relegation threatened Dundee United tonight and will be looking to secure a win to maintain their lead at the top of the Premiership.
