Leeds United boss Steve Evans has confirmed that striker Chris Wood is back in contention for tomorrow's match against Sheffield Wednesday, but whether or not he will play will depend on a test today.

The striker has been out of the team for their last three outings with a minor hamstring injury he picked up during the 2-2 draw against Derby County last month.

However, with the Championship fight heating up drastically and the Peacocks having seen their eight-match unbeaten run come to an end this Tuesday against Ipswich Town, the return of their premier striker will be crucial.

The New Zealander has been his side's highest goalscorer this season, having managed eight goals in 23 Championship matches, and has also provided his team-mates with two assists.

Speaking about the striker's situation the 53-year-old told his club's official website: "He can play but whether he will or not depends on a test this afternoon.

“He’s done some work this week and we’ll try and get him over the line."

Praising the striker's contribution towards the team this term, Evans added that Wood's contribution can very well be realised when he is not playing out there.

“He’s such a big player for us and you don’t realise what you’re missing until he’s not there.”
