Sunderland have joined Swansea City in the hunt for unsettled Roma striker Seydou Doumbia, ahead of a potential move to England for the player.

Doumbia has seen his spell at Roma go less than smoothly and is looking for the exit door in the current transfer window, despite the capital club recently appointing a new coach.

Welsh giants Swansea have been strongly linked with the former CSKA Moscow hitman, but according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Sunderland are also in the race for his signature.

The Black Cats have enjoyed a revival under Sam Allardyce of late and came up trumps against Swansea earlier this week with a 4-2 away win.

Sunderland are now just one point behind Swansea in the Premier League standings, though they are still in the relegation zone.

Doumbia joined Roma from CSKA Moscow last year, but was sent back on loan to the Russian club at the start of this season.

His loan spell at the Railwaymen is now over and CSKA Moscow have been unable to reach an agreement with Roma to keep him in Russia.

The striker has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, but is yet to taste football in the English top flight.
