Newcastle United are hoping to complete the signing of Andros Townsend from Tottenham Hotspur this week after the winger indicated he is willing to move to St. James' Park, but have no agreement with the White Hart Lane outfit yet.

The Magpies have been in talks with Tottenham over the England international and are hoping to now sign him either on a permanent basis or a loan with a right to buy at the end of the season.

According to Press Association Sport, Townsend has signalled his interest in moving to Tyneside, despite interest from Watford and West Brom.

But no deal has yet been done as Spurs hold out for their full valuation of the winger to be met, putting the ball back in Newcastle's court.

Magpies boss Steve McClaren is keen to have the 24-year-old available to play against Watford on Saturday, though it remains to be seen whether a deal can be done quickly between two clubs who pride themselves on driving a hard bargain.

Townsend has found himself out in the cold at White Hart Lane this season, notably being dropped after falling out with a member of the club's coaching staff around a Europa League game in October.

The winger has played in the club's Under-21 ranks this term and has scored three goals as he seeks to keep sharp ahead of a switch away from Spurs.
