Celtic new boy Erik Sviatchenko insists that his aim to win trophies was matched by the Scottish champions, making his decision to move to the country easier.

The defender was snapped up by the Bhoys on a four-and-a-half year deal yesterday with the unveiling being done earlier today.

The 24-year-old admits he attracted interest from a number of clubs, but was keen to answer Celtic's call when the Bhoys arrived on the scene.

And now that he has finally managed to secure the move, the defender insists that his aim will be to win trophies for his new team.

Sviatchenko took time to reveal that he had offers from teams in France as well as in Italy, but the fact that the Scottish champions were interested made his decision a lot easier.

"It has been a long, tough way for me to try to get a contract in a foreign country and when Celtic came, I could feel that this was a very good decision for me", Sviatchenko told his new club's official website.

“It was very clear that Celtic is a winning club and has been winning trophies. They have won the championship for the last four years and I won it in Denmark and I want to be remembered.

“I want to play for winning, not just to play games. I had the feeling of going into every game to win something so I think that’s a good match with Celtic.

"There were teams from the Italian league, the French league and the Championship, but nothing could compare to a huge club like Celtic so I’m very satisfied."

Sviatchenko won the top flight championship as the club captain for Danish side FC Midtjylland last season.
