Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor feels Saturday’s 2-0 loss against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough was a strange game and believes that had the Whites been 3-0 up at half-time it would not have surprised anyone.

Steve Evans’ side produced a brilliant first-half display, but were unable to find a way past a resilient Sheffield Wednesday backline.

The Owls raced to a 2-0 lead at the start of the second half, when striker Gary Hooper scored two quickfire goals to help his side take an unassailable lead.

Hooper, on loan from Norwich City, opened the scoring 69 seconds after the restart, and doubled his side’s lead in the 50th minute.

The Elland Road outfit had a goal controversially ruled out 12 minutes from time, as a substitution was not completed.

Leeds thought they had a goal back, but the goal was disallowed as Fernando Forestieri had not left the pitch when the ball nestled into the back of the net.

Taylor insisted that the game was Leeds’ best performance of the season, however, he rued his side’s missed chances.

The 22-year-old believes that the difference in the game was made by how the two side’s capitalised on the chances, which came their way.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Taylor said: “It was a strange game.

"We could maybe say it was our best performance of the season with the way we knocked it about and if we’d come in 3-0 up at half-time I don’t think anyone would have been surprised.

“I think the difference was in both boxes, how we didn’t take our chances and they took theirs.

“We need to take our chances really, but you can’t really put the blame on just that.”

The loss now leaves the Whites in 17th position in the league table and any chances of making it to the playoffs look all but over for Evans’ side.
