West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino is still on Newcastle United’s radar, according to Press Association Sport.

Steve McClaren is on the lookout for a striker this month as summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic has failed to make his mark in the Premier League.

The Magpies, who edged out high flying West Ham United 2-1 at the weekend, have been linked with a host of forwards in January.

Apart from Berahino, Newcastle targeted Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette, who is not keen to a move to St James’ Park, while Chelsea are not ready to let go of Loic Remy during the winter transfer window.

On the other hand, Newcastle’s other targets are Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost and West Ham’s Andy Carroll, who are currently out injured; another option has also been taken off the table with Charlie Austin joining Southampton from Queens Park Rangers last week.
