Atletico Madrid have knocked back an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of their striker Jackson Martinez.

The Colombian hitman joined the Spanish giants from FC Porto last summer, but not being able to nail a place down Diego Simeone’s in first eleven and a return of three goals meant that Tottenham were looking to take advantage of the situation.

Tottenham are keen to sign a partner for Harry Kane in attack and were hoping to snare the 29-year-old striker from Atletico Madrid this month, but the Spaniards have slammed the door shut.

According to Madrid-based daily Marca, Los Colchoneros rejected a €30m bid from Spurs for Martinez’s signature and are highly unlikely to entertain further offers from the north Londoners.

Atletico Madrid, who paid €35m to Porto for Martinez, are in no mood to lose him for a smaller fee and the FIFA transfer ban, which prevents them from buying players in the next two windows, further complicates things.

The club are determined to keep hold of their current crop of players and hence Tottenham are not likely to succeed in any further endeavours to get Martinez.

The Colombian has a contract until 2019 with Atletico Madrid.
