Mark Warburton has revealed that Rangers are only looking to sign players who will be able step up to the rigours of playing in the Scottish Premiership next season.

The Gers, who are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship table with a game in hand and are favourites to gain promotion back to the top division, have been busy in the winter transfer window.

Rangers have already snapped up winger Harry Forrester and goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski, in addition to signing Accrington Stanley duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks on pre- contractual agreements, with the pair due to arrive at Ibrox in the summer.

And Warburton, whose side have also saw two bids knocked back by St Johnstone for forward Michael O'Halloran, insisted that Rangers are not interested in signing players with a short-term perspective.

“Yes, we are not looking for players just to get us through the next five months”, he answered at a press conference yesterday, when asked if he is keen to sign players who can help in the Premiership.

“That’s a pointless exercise, short-term fixes won’t help Rangers Football Club.

“So we are looking for players who can of course come in and adapt to the demands that we place upon them and embrace those demands, but then obviously prepare for the next season as well at a higher level hopefully.”

Rangers, who have 50 points from 20 games, are next up against Greenock Morton in an away game on Monday.
