Watford are keen to sign Rennes midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure this month, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The newly promoted Premier League outfit wanted to rope in the midfielder in the summer and even put forward a €10m bid, but the move fell through.

But now it seems the Hornets are ready to return to lure the 23-year-old from Roazhon Park to Vicarage Road during the winter transfer window.

Doucoure, who is a product of Rennes youth system, has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three times and providing two assists.

In total, the Frenchman has found the back of the net 16 times and set up 15 goals in 92 games since making his debut for the Red and Blacks during the 2012/13 campaign.

Doucoure, whose present contract with Rennes runs until 2017, is yet to earn a senior cap for France, but he has represented the nation at various youth levels.

While his present employers are currently third in Ligue 1, Watford are 12th in the Premier League with 29 points, eight clear of the relegation zone.
