Moussa Sissoko has ruled out leaving Newcastle United in the current transfer window, despite being targeted by Serie A leaders Napoli.

The Italian giants have already seen one offer for Sissoko knocked back by Newcastle, but have been tipped to return with a fresh bid.

However, they may rethink following an admission from the midfielder that he is not prepared to leave St James' Park this month.

Sissoko does not feel Newcastle are open to selling him, while he is also concerned about moving clubs so close to Euro 2016. The midfielder accepts Newcastle are struggling, but sees the benefits of playing regularly.

"I do not think I will leave Newcastle", he said on French TV programme Telefoot on Sunday.

"The club will not let me go. And then there is the question of the timing, a few months before the Euros.

"While the results are not great, I have the chance to play every weekend and reap the benefits."

Sissoko clocked up all 90 minutes for Newcastle in their defeat at Watford on Saturday, a result which leaves the Magpies in the Premier League's relegation zone.

The Frenchman was linked with exiting St James' Park last summer, but stayed put with the north east club, where he is an ever-present under boss Steve McClaren.
