Legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has revealed that Graeme Souness was the best player he has ever played with, while naming the Scot in his all-time eleven.

The former midfielder, whose playing career is mostly remembered for his spell at Liverpool, spent seven very successful seasons at Anfield between 1978 and 1984.

During his time at Liverpool, Souness helped Liverpool to five league titles, three European Cups, now rechristened the Champions League, and four League Cups.

Souness was also a vital member of the Scottish national team, and he represented the nation at three World Cups.

And Grobbelaar, who played three seasons alongside Souness at the Merseyside club between 1981 and 1984, insisted that although the 62-year-old could play in a number of positions, he was deploying the Scot in the middle of the park as he was a threat going forward.

“Graeme Souness was the finest player I’ve ever played with”, he said on LFC TV, selecting his all-time eleven

“The best player ever. He had everything, he could play in any position but down the field he was brilliant.

“That’s why I’ve got him there [in the middle of the midfield]. Good Scottish international.”

Souness later returned to Liverpool as a manager, but during his time in charge at the club between 1991 and 1994, the Reds managed to win just one trophy in the form of a FA Cup.
