Leeds United head coach Steve Evans says that new signing Toumani Diagouraga knocked back Scottish giants Rangers and a big Championship club in order to move to Elland Road.

Diagouraga was earmarked as a priority target by Rangers boss Mark Warburton for the current transfer window, but the Gers struggled to agree a fee with Brentford for the 28-year-old.

Leeds moved quickly, doing a deal with Brentford and then agreeing a two-and-a-half-year contract with Diagouraga.

And Evans revealed it was not just Rangers who were rivalling Leeds for Diagouraga, but also another Championship club

"Toumani not only had Glasgow Rangers, which is very public now, but he had another big club in the Championship [that wanted him]", Evans told LUTV.

"I have to say is there any bigger than us? Hmmmm, I'm not so sure", he added.

In a twist of fate Diagouraga could make his Leeds debut against his former club Brentford tomorrow when the Yorkshire giants lock horns with the Bees in a Championship fixture.

Diagouraga has been handed the number 16 shirt at Elland Road, while Leeds also have an option to extend his contract past 2018 should he impress during his time at the club.
