Eric Black is heading to Aston Villa to take up a coaching role with the Premier League club, in what is a blow for the Millers.

Black has been working as assistant boss at Rotherham United in the Championship, but according to The Star, the Scot is now answering the call from Aston Villa.

The 52-year-old spent time as a player in France, turning out for Metz between 1986 and 1991, and will work under Frenchman Remi Garde at Villa Park.

He has had a number of coaching roles, along with caretaker spells at Birmingham City, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United.

Black filled in at Rotherham earlier this season following the departure of Steve Evans.

It is expected that Black will become Garde's assistant manager, and the Scot is joining a side sitting bottom of the Premier League.

Aston Villa have collected just 13 points from 23 games so far this season and are widely tipped to suffer relegation to the Championship.
