Gaston Ramirez has completed a loan move from Southampton to Championship club Middlesbrough.

The Uruguay international has struggled for playing time at St. Mary's Stadium this season and Saints boss Ronald Koeman has given the green light for Ramirez to move on.

The loan move effectively ends Ramirez's spell at Southampton as his contract with the Premier League club is set to expire in the summer.

The former Bologna midfielder heads to Middlesbrough to boost the side's promotion prospects, with Aitor Karanka's men fighting at the top end of the Championship standings.

Southampton beat Liverpool to Ramirez's signature in 2012, scooping up the attacking midfielder from Italian outfit Bologna.
