Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is against making Fernando Torres’ loan move permanent, according to Spanish daily AS.

The striker is currently on loan at his boyhood club from AC Milan, but with Atletico Madrid being banned from signing new players for the next two transfer windows as punishment for breaching FIFA’s rules on registering players under the age of 18 years old, the Rojiblanco have to sign Torres in the ongoing winter transfer window, which is set to end on Monday, if they wish to keep him at the club beyond this season.

However, Torres has struggled for form in the present campaign, with the 31-year-old scoring just two goals in 24 appearances in all competitions.

As a result, Simeone has already informed Torres that he does not have a future at the Vicente Calderon next season.

But Simeone refused to comment on the situation when asked at a press conference yesterday, ahead of his side’s Copa del Rey match against Celta Vigo tonight.

“The other day I said there was nothing to say because there wasn’t”, the Argentine said.

“We’ve talked to Fernando and he knows what I think and he’s told me what he feels.

“The talk remains private. We’ve talked, which is the main thing.”

It has been also claimed that Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin told Torres that he may remain at the club if FIFA listen to their request and lift the transfer embargo.

Torres, who was a hero at Atletico Madrid, left the club to join Liverpool in 2007.
