Leeds United legend Gary McAllister believes there are similarities between new Whites’ signing Toumani Diagouraga and legendary French midfielder Patrick Vieira.

The 28-year-old was signed by Steve Evans earlier this week from Championship rivals Brentford on a two-and-a-half year contract.

Diagouraga made his debut for the Elland Road outfit in last night’s 1-1 draw against his former side at Griffin Park, coming on as a second half substitute.

Vieira won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with the French national team and also lifted numerous league titles in England and Italy.

Evans had also suggested that his new signing reminded him of the Arsenal legend.

McAllister believes that the 28-year-old midfielder may not be as good as the Arsenal legend, but he is energetic, destructive and is also good on the ball.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Record, McAllister said: “Leeds boss Steve Evans says Diagouraga reminds him of Partick Vieira.

“There are similarities, maybe he’s not quite as good as Vieira.

“He’s energetic, covers ground and is destructive but can play as well.”

Evans has splashed the cash in the ongoing transfer window to help his side close the gap on the top six and is hoping his side can close the gap on the Championship playoff spots
