Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has revealed that his side are still in the dark over Joel Matip’s move to Liverpool in the summer.

The Cameroon international, whose present deal with Schalke is due to expire next summer, has been heavily linked with a move to the Merseyside giants upon the expiration of his contract.

It has also been reported in some corners that the defender has already agreed on a pre-contract deal with the Reds.

But Heldt insisted that he cannot confirm whether the 24-year-old has decided to swap the Veltins Arena for Anfield after the end of the present campaign.

“I can't confirm that an agreement has been made with Liverpool regarding Matip”, he said at a press conference, ahead of Schalke’s Bundesliga game with Darmstadt on Saturday.
